Wellem Pediatric: A New Era of Child-Friendly Healthcare

Jason Chan's Innovative Optometry Center Redefines Pediatric Medical Spaces

Wellem Pediatric is more than just a healthcare center; it's a space where children's fears of medical procedures are alleviated through thoughtful design. The center is based on the concept of a mysterious planet, Wellem, inhabited by friendly creatures and equipped with the most advanced medical equipment. This imaginative narrative serves as a backdrop for the center's design, making it unique and engaging for its young visitors.

Jason Chan, the designer behind this innovative project, has successfully brought the American private medical concept to China through Wellem. The design focuses on improving the medical environment and changing the traditional concept of a "hospital". This approach aligns with Wellem's advocacy for "prevention and health care concept of not excessive treatment", a philosophy that is seamlessly integrated into the design.

The design of Wellem Pediatric is realized through the theme of an ocean station, a space station located on the fictional planet. The space is predominantly white, accentuated by the visual perception of a spacecraft cabin. The children's play area is filled with elements of spacecraft and marine life, further enhancing the theme of the ocean station. The use of curves throughout the design highlights ocean elements, creating a soft and inviting atmosphere.

Technical specifications of the project reveal a sprawling area of 1440 square meters. The reception desk, presented in curves, echoes the overall space. The adult medical beauty area is differentiated from the pediatric area through the use of a distinct Morandi green color, and the use of wall cloth softens the space. Privacy is ensured through the use of atomized glass film on the clinic's glass doors, which also contributes to softening the corridor space.

The project, which started in March 2019 and finished in May 2019 in Shanghai, faced the challenge of fitting the theme of Wellem into the space design. The aim was to create a space where children would not be afraid to visit, and where fun and practicality coexist. This innovative approach to pediatric healthcare design has earned Jason Chan the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, a testament to the design's creativity, innovation, and excellence.
